Accreditations and memberships

We’re devoted to delivering the highest-quality ingredients, promoting sustainable practices, and minimising the impact we have on the environment. So we take the accreditations and memberships of industry bodies listed here very seriously.

We take our responsibility to meet the highest standards very seriously. You can see this in our many sustainability and quality accreditations and membership of numerous respected industry bodies.

BRC Global Standards

GII’s plants are BRC-accredited, meaning every ingredient goes through rigorous processes that meet leading standards for food safety. This globally recognised safety and quality certification programme is used by suppliers in 123 countries.

ISO 14001 Environmental Management System

GII has been accredited to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System since 2000. It is policy to ensure that our plants are accredited to the highest environmental standards, reflecting our ongoing commitment to minimising waste and emissions.

ISO 50001 Energy Management System

In 2007, we were the first Irish-owned company to implement an accredited energy management system, the IS 393, which was developed by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). In 2009 we transitioned to the European equivalent, EN16001, based on the original Irish standard. Keeping up with the latest standards, we transitioned to the ISO 50001 Global Energy Management System in 2011, the year it was published. This recognises our exceptional performance in improving energy efficiency, performance and commitment to reducing costs in the process.

Triple Carbon Trust Certification

In 2010, our Virginia site became the first dairy processor to be certified to the Carbon Trust, followed by Ballyragget in 2011. Virginia then went on to win the Carbon Trust Reduction Award in 2011 for outstanding results in carbon reduction efforts. In 2014, GII became the first dairy processing company to be awarded triple certification by the Carbon Trust for our achievements in water, waste and emissions management.

The Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)

We became a certified member of the RSPO in 2014, in line with our commitment to making our ingredients sustainably sourced by 2020. We are continuously engaging with our oil suppliers and monitoring their performance against the key RSPO principles and criteria.

Organic Trust

Our Ballyragget sludge is certified as organic, supplying over 150 farms with highly nutritional fertiliser. This is all part of our closed loop, where the by-products of the milk we collect and process go back to the land in a holistic way, and under a sustainable nutrient management plan.

Origin Green

We’re one of the 10 founding companies of Origin Green , the sustainability initiative created by the Irish Food Board, Bord Bia. This is the world’s only sustainability initiative to operate on a national scale by uniting the government, private sector and food producers.

Sustainable Agriculture Initiative (SAI)

In 2015 we became a member of the SAI , the only global food industry initiative for sustainable agriculture. By doing so, we can share knowledge and collaborate with other worldwide organisations and leading international brand owners to achieve sustainable production and sourcing of materials.
